Wright Communications joins Climate Leaders Coalition

Sustainability-focused PR agency, Wright Communications, has joined the Climate Leaders Coalition as part of its on-going commitment to sustainability and reducing climate change.

Managing Director Nikki Wright said as well as ensuring the agency was committed to reducing its own carbon footprint, its overarching business purpose is to encourage and empower its clients to become better corporate citizens.

“Our key client Toyota is in the leadership group of the Climate Leaders Coalition and are actively pursuing carbon reductions, making it imperative for us to understand the issues first hand,” she said.

As part of its commitment to reducing climate change, in January 2019 Wright Communications will set the sustainability standard for the public relations industry by achieving carbon neutrality through Enviro-Mark Solutions’ carboNZero programme.

“We have made a commitment to reduce and off-set carbon emissions from our business operations, but this is only a small part of our contribution to staying within the global 2° warming target. We partner with many of our clients to communicate their carbon reduction initiatives. As a result, we punch above our weight in terms of addressing and responding positively to climate change,” Nikki said.

The consultancy’s ongoing effort on addressing climate change involved the following initiatives:

  • Measuring and reporting total Scope 1, 2 and 3 Greenhouse Gas emissions produced by business activities;
  • Maintaining two Toyota Prius C hybrid vehicles, encouraging our staff to use public transport or walk to inner-city meetings and teleconferencing with out-of-town clients; and
  • Working with suppliers such as Method Recycling to help divert waste from landfill, and Ecotricity, New Zealand’s only carboNZero certified electricity supplier.

Wright Communications set itself apart from its competitors early on with its focus on sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), which has become increasingly important for many of its clients over the past 12 years.

During that time, Wright has worked with some of New Zealand’s largest businesses on a variety of CSR projects, including CSR strategies, community investment reviews, sustainability reports and materiality assessments.

In January 2019, Wright Communications published its first annual Sustainability Report. The report details the agency’s environmental footprint and contributions to social issues in the broader New Zealand community.
