Emissions Measurement & Reporting
We recommend signatories develop their inventories in line with the Ministry for Environment’s guidance for measuring, reporting and offsetting greenhouse gas emissions, ISO 14064-1, and/or the Greenhouse Gas Protocol standards and guidance.
What are the requirements?
2017 Statement – minimum commitments
To measure your greenhouse gas emissions and publicly report on them.
- As a minimum, all signatories must report their scope 1 and 2 emissions in full.
- We also strongly encourage reporting of material (e.g. significant) scope 3 emission sources.
2019 Statement – additional commitments
To have your greenhouse gas inventory independently verified by a third party.
- For most signatories:
- Verification should be in line with ISO 14064-3
- May take the form of limited assurance or reasonable assurance
- For signatories with revenue <5million NZD
- Verification may be third party confirmation that the methodology and measurement is consistent with ISO14064-1
