energyclubnz was launched in Auckland in June 2017 and has since expanded to cover nearly 94% of New Zealand smart meters across 18 electricity networks. We are proud to be a Stuff joint venture business. One of the primary reasons for founding energyclubnz was to help New Zealand get out of burning coal to generate electricity hence our role as a gold sponsor of Generation Zero's 'Zero Carbon Act' even before we launched the business publicly. We are a growth company and expect 2018/19 revenues to be 15x that of our first financial year. Our 'electricity at cost for a small weekly club fee' is designed to disrupt the market as we make no profitability from the sale of the electricity at all. The only source of potential profit is from the weekly club fee ($2.40/week for a low user and $5/week for a standard user) which will be the same for all customers dependent on their usage.
This means we are heavily motivated for members to use less grid supplied electricity and save not only money but also their environment. Supported by our real time weekly billing members are taking real control of their electricity consumption and not only saving money but are actively feeding back that they are using less electricity. energyclubnz plans to deliver new innovative services to reduce carbon intensity further. All of our team are based across New Zealand - currently a small team of 10 that is growing by the month. All roles are home-based giving a talented and passionate team an opportunity to be part of something special whilst delivering a real balance between work and home life. In the last month alone we believe we have returned 40-60 hours back of traditional lost commuting time to families and saved over 3,000km of driving.

Most plastic is made from non-renewable petrochemicals. The extraction process and conversion into plastic releases carbon into the atmosphere, adding to climate change. So in 2014 we challenged ourselves to find a packaging alternative that goes beyond reducing emissions, and actually takes carbon out of the atmosphere. We found a packaging solution that can help to combat climate change. It’s plastic made from sugarcane.

Ecostore has announced that more than 80% of its packaging is made with renewable, sustainable sugar, and thanks to this significant investment, ecostore has helped save 4,485 tonnes of carbon from being released into the atmosphere since the company converted its packaging from petrochemical plastic to biobased ‘sugar’ plastic four years ago. The total savings achieved to date are equivalent to the amount of carbon emitted during 8,500 car journeys from Cape Reinga to Bluff.
